Gravitational Forces Creating the Moon Pocket Mirror

Exclusively ours, this pocket mirror despicts a young Earth impacted by a similarly-sized object over 4 billion years ago. Gravitational forces are observed pulling together the resulting debris to create the Moon, possibly in a matter of hours. 

This fascinating hand-drawn sketch was created by Carter Emmart, the Museum's director of astrovisualization, for the 2005 Hayden Planetarium Space Show, Cosmic Collisions.
