Dragonflies were some of the first winged insects to evolve over 30 million years ago. Dragonflies are exceptional hunters; they help control pest insect populations such as mosquitos and biting flies. Dragonflies have two sets of wings and can fly in any direction, often hovering in one spot for a long period of time.
