The allosaurus was a large carnivorous theropod dinosaur that lived 155 to 145 million years ago during the Late Jurassic period. They were a large bipedal predator with large powerful hindlimbs, small three-fingered forelimbs and a long, heavy, muscular tail. It had a lightweight skull with dozens of sharp, serrated teeth. The allosaurus averaged 33 feet in length, although remains suggest that some could have reached as long as 39 feet in length. It would have been one of the dinosaurs at the top of the food chain that preyed on large herbivorous dinosaurs and other predators as well.Â
