Large African Hope Basket Bowl

The sunburst pattern on this basket is known as the "hope" design. Reflected on the Rwandan flag, this sunburst image stands for the country's collective hope for a new dawn and brighter future. This design has meaning to the basket weavers as each basket sold increases their chances for a better life. The basket bowl is handwoven of all natural, organically dyed sisal fibers and sweet grass.

About the artist: The weaver of this basket is Marcelline. Her husband works as a builder and together they support their children and family. She has been weaving for 24 years. She has earned enough money to afford electricity, clothes, food, school fees and health insurance for her family.
