The Museum has a diverse group of scientists from paleontologists to anthropologists to astrophysicists. For over 100 years, the Museum has supported explorers going on expeditions all over the world. A few of the best known are Roy Chapman Andrews, who led early expeditions to the Gobi Desert; paleontologist Barnum Brown, the scientist who discovered Tyrannosaurus rex; the legendary anthropologist Margaret Mead, and astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson. On more than 100 expeditions a year, scientists are digging for fossils, studying our dynamic planet, investigating outer space, examining cultures around the globe, excavating archaeological sites, and exploring habitats and species from the Amazon to Zambia.
