It's hard to imagine a world without biodiversity. We rely on many different kinds of organisms for food, oxygen, clean water, and medicine. As the world's population grows, we are using up some resources faster than they can be replaced. We're also destroying habitats to make room for homes, towns, factories, and farms. Conservation means protecting habitats and the diversity of species that live in them. In the Hall of Biodiversity at the Museum, you'll find as many as 1,500 of the species that scientists have discovered on Earth.
